For actors (or anyone!) ready to create great habits that last.
Yep. It’s that time of year again. Do you set resolutions? Or do you not even bother because you know you won’t stick to them?
If I’m being rrrrrreally honest, I always hated making resolutions no matter what time of year. I didn’t have the tools to make lasting change and since I didn’t want to let myself down as I had done in the past I just stopped trying. I learned that getting fired up, excited and having the desire to change simply wasn’t enough to help me create great habits that would stick.
A few years ago I stumbled across the Tiny Habits philosophy, a really cool program created by B.J. Fogg, Ph.D. from the Persuasive Technology Lab at Stanford University. He has studied human behavior for over 20 years.
His research has taught him:
“Only three things will change behavior in the long term.
Option A. Have an epiphany
Option B. Change your environment (what surrounds you)
Option C. Take baby steps”
Since it would be pretty hard to create your own epiphany, he focuses on B and C.
The idea is that you start small. You choose three tiny habits that are easy/no big deal to tackle and build from there. Like:
After I walk the dog I will read one sentence of the new acting book I bought.
After I brush my teeth I will do 10 seconds of voice exercises.
After I eat breakfast I will do one yoga pose.
It’s so simple and so powerful.
What big changes do you want to create in your life?
He let’s you join a session to try it out here
Check it out and let me know what great habits you are going to create this year!

Creating sticky habits is far easier when we make use of our current routines, instead of trying to fight them. The concept of if-then planning is built around environmental “triggers” that we can use to let us know that it’s time to act on our habit. Also known
