Monologues for teens (you can download!)
Are you on the hunt for great monologues for teens you can download? If you’re pressed for time, I know it can be a challenge to hear about a play that might have a good monologue, order it, read it and then decide if it will work as an audition piece. Perhaps you are looking for plays for college audition monologues or a piece to audition for your school play or maybe you need something for a local theatre…Well!
Here’s a website that may be too good to be true.
One of my favorite resources for actors of all ages is New Play Exchange. For a tiny fee of $10 PER YEAR, you can become a member and start discovering tons of fresh material. I love their search features which allow you to look for plays by genre as well as roles by gender and race. You can also search by the playwright’s demographics including gender, ethnic and sexual identities. And for actors looking for new material quickly, there’s a feature that allows you to search for full scripts available for download.
In the video here I give you a tour of how I discovered and downloaded a play for high school aged actors to give you a sense of how it works. But if you aren’t a video person, (since I’m a member) I did the following sample search to start a hunt for plays that might have great monologues for teens inside:
First, become a member of New Play Exchange for less than it costs to go to a movie. Then:
- search >>
- most recommended >>
- age level: all ages >>
- drama >>
- full scripts available for download >>
- LGBTQ writers >>
- Then in the list to the left I saw a play for high school aged actors titled Inside Out
I hope New Play Exchange becomes a valuable resource in your actor toolbox!
And if you do happen to be auditioning for college in the future, don’t miss out on The College Audition Program. Make sure you not only have the best audition material but more importantly, that you know what to do to rehearse that material. (Hint, it’s probably not what you’re already doing…) Click here to learn more or get it going.
